I wanna be a B-Boy when I grow up.

Yesterday, The Imagination Celebration hosted The Urban Jam at The Citadel Mall's Celebration Place. (If you've never been inside The Celebration Place, I urge you to do so.) I was fortunate enough to receive an invitation to perform at the event, and soak up some of the staples of Urban Culture, along with The Reminders, Soul Mechanics, and what may have been one of the hypest (and rhythmically inclined) crowds I've ever stood in front of.

As I performed (five performances over the course of the afternoon,) local B-Boys danced to the songs 'Boom Boom Love Gun,' and 'Fantasy.' Soul Movement joined me during my final set, along with a local DJ. Izzy and Zaya (daughters of The Reminders) led the other children through some pretty epic footwork which included sliding, shoulder popping and some Flash-Dance-esque quick feet to 'Mr. Billsworth.'

Soul Movement taught a dance workshop and free-styled to songs like 'Apache' by The Sugar Hill Gang and 'Poppa's Got A Brand New Dance,' by The Late But Great James Brown.

The Reminders got the crowd jumping during their set, and even managed to work in a few new songs (BRILLIANT by the way.)

All in all, The Day was 'Stupid Fresh,' if I may use an urban phrase. Does anyone still say "stupid fresh?"
